The George Eliot NHS Trust Hospital and Mary Ann Evans Day Hospice, Nuneaton, volunteer opportunity

The George Eliot NHS Trust Hospital and Mary Ann Evans Day Hospice, Nuneaton (CV10 7DJ) are looking to recruit volunteer Complementary Therapists.

At the George Eliot Hospital Complementary Therapies are available to support patients during their conventional treatments. Patients at the Mary Ann Evans day hospice access Complementary Therapy to help manage symptoms associated with life limiting illness and improve quality of life.

Therapists are required to provide massage, aromatherapy, reflexology or reiki Complementary Therapy treatment to patients at the George Eliot Hospital and Mary Ann Evans Day Hospice (these include carers and staff). Other therapies will be considered.

We want to make this service available to all patients and their carers so if you are a qualified therapist in any of these areas you can help us achieve this as part of the Complementary Therapy team.

Requirements:
• We ask that all therapists are experienced and qualified (with successful training in your therapy to at least diploma level)
• Hold professional registration and insurance.
• Have an enthusiasm for care.
• Strong communication skills.
• A commitment to volunteer in a regular time-slot at least once a fortnight is requested.

• 3 and 6 monthly reviews with the senior Complementary Therapist

• Access to resources, ad hoc training opportunities and ongoing learning and development
• First-hand experience and practice working with patients with chronic and life limiting illnesses, their carers and those with long-term health conditions
• Treatment room, towels, oils and equipment provided

Role Profile

Role: Volunteer Complementary Therapist
Responsible to: Caroline Pearson; Complementary Therapies Co-ordinator

Service description: Complementary Therapies can make a significant difference to the wellbeing of patients and their carers. At the George Eliot Hospital Complementary Therapy treatments are available to support patients during their conventional treatments. Patients at the Mary Ann Evans day hospice access Complementary Therapy to help manage symptoms associated with life limiting illness and improve quality of life. Therapies currently available are aromatherapy, massage, reflexology and reiki. Other therapies will be considered.

Role description: Therapists are required to provide massage, aromatherapy, reflexology or reiki complementary therapy treatment to patients at the George Eliot hospital and Mary Ann Evans day hospice (these include carers and staff).
You would be working under the supervision of the Complementary Therapy co-ordinator; offering treatment to patients with chronic and life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers, in a safe environment.
You would be required to help promote the service and present patients and carers with information about the complementary therapies available to them.

Role requirements: We ask that all therapists are experienced and qualified (with successful training in your therapy to at least diploma level)
Maintain professional registration and insurance.
Have an enthusiasm for care.
Strong communication skills.

A commitment to volunteer in a regular time-slot at least once a fortnight is requested.

Role benefits: In return for your valuable work you will receive a full induction and an initial 3 monthly and 6 monthly review with the senior Complementary Therapist

Ongoing support from the Complementary Therapy team

The opportunity for debriefs/emotional support and for volunteer peer support and regular get-togethers

Access to resources, ad hoc training opportunities and ongoing learning and development
