Volunteers required at Salisbury Hospice

The service is a new Complementary Therapy service developed over the last 9 - 10months to provide regular Complementary Therapy to Palliative patients as Inpatients on the Unit , Day Hospice patients who come in one day a week to our Peter Gillham Support centre , and Outpatients by appointment and Patients carers. Therapies are Massage, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy. We are a specialist unit so the majority of our palliative patients have complex needs. We currently have a small Complementary Therapy team , consisting of 8 qualified therapists, all of whom commit to one regular shift per fortnight. We find this is not too onerous a commitment for people to fulfil, whilst providing patients with a reliable service they can depend on

We support our Therapists with a full Induction day which covers providing Complementary Therapy in a Palliative care environment, NHS policy and procedure to provide therapy and we then provide shadowing for the first 3 sessions. After this there are Support supervision days once per quarter where we have a day where we focus on a subject , for example in August we plan to look at DVT in Palliative patients and how this impacts on providing Therapy. We will have a Doctor as speaker on this, then Short meditation session, and well being for therapists The session will provide Attendance certificates for CPD points, for therapists if they wish to use

In another quarter we plan to visit an essential oil grower! So you can see we have varied opportunity for Therapists to not only provide therapy as a volunteer once per fortnight with patients, but also to expand their knowledge and experience of both Therapy and the Palliative care environment

If Qualified Therapists are attracted to work with us we provide

Aromatherapy

Reflexology

Indian Head Massage

Holistic Massage

Therapists need to be qualified to Level 3 Diploma, have current insurance and be a member of a Regulatory body. Shifts are 4hrs , once per fortnight. We also pay mileage /bus fares to our volunteers for sessions as a help with travel costs. I would look forward to hearing from anyone interested in volunteering and can be contacted on
