Conference on Yoga and Mind-Body Medicine - London, April 4th-6th

Bringing Yoga into Healthcare - 10:00am-12:00pm
Research is continuing to confirm that yoga therapy is complementary and sometimes even stand- alone treatment for many physical and mental health conditions. If we really hope to bring the benefits of yoga to those who need them most we must be able to communicate effectively with medical professionals. This requires a significant understanding of yoga therapy research and how to clear and defined ways to approach healthcare institutions.
On April 3rd 2014 you are invited to a pre-conference meeting of yoga therapists who wish to pioneer this effort in Europe. This meeting is an opportunity:
• Network with other therapists who share your vision
• Learn about the current state of research in yoga therapy from one of the world’s leading yoga researchers
• Learn strategies to that will help you approach healthcare settings
• Understand vital considerations in the development of clinical yoga therapy programs
• Collaborate on a united grass roots movement to integrate yoga therapy into healthcare
How to conduct and interpret yoga research led by Professor Sat Bir Khalsa - 13.00pm - 16:00pm
This 3-hour workshop will cover topics relevant to basic aspects of yoga research for yoga instructors and those interested in engaging in yoga research. Topics on the science will include the rationale for yoga research and its value to society, and how to access, read and interpret the published yoga research literature. Topics on participating in yoga research will cover informal documentation, questionnaire administration, basic research design characteristics, human ethics issues and how to initiate and develop research collaborations.

What is the day going to be like?
• A morning practice for reducing anxiety, with clarity around the mechanisms around the practice
• Time to network and share with like-minded peers
• A lecture on yoga and neuroscience
• Information about our training and how you can apply.

Professor Ronald Ley, friend to the Minded Institute, is holding a workshop in March: Mindfulness and the Breath. Learn how the breath leads stress responses and the mechanics of placing the breath in managing stressful situations. Ley writes in his introduction to 'Multi-Disciplinary Approaches to Breathing Pattern Disorders,' "Breathing is inquisitively sensitive to stress."
