Relaxation therapist wanted

Relaxation therapist wanted

The complementary therapies service was established at Whipps Cross Hospital in 2005 and addresses symptoms such as anxiety management needs for patients with cancer from the point of diagnosis and also patients with palliative care needs. The service runs 1:1 therapy sessions for patients and also holds a weekly relaxation and guided visualisation class.

The service is looking for volunteers to help to support the relaxation and guided visualisation class. Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of one year and to be available for two 2 ½ hour sessions per month on a Wednesday between 12:30-3pm.

Along with a colleague, the work will include setting up and clearing up before and after the session, group facilitation and at times, leading the session. In return you will:

• Gain extensive experience of working with severe pathology and some of the hospital’s most complex patients
• Group facilitation and development of communication skills
• NHS experience
• Full access to any of our CPD events free of charge
• In-house supervision and annual appraisal

This is an emerging area of medicine and NHS experience and a reference may help with longer term career prospects.

If you or someone you know is interested please could you contact Julia Briscoe, Head of Complementary Therapies or Neil Browne, Senior Complementary Therapist for an application form?
