Volunteers needed for Help The Hospices at the Virgin London Marathon 2012- Sunday 12 April

For the 6th year in a row we are looking for volunteer massage practitioners to help do basic leg massages at the London marathon.

We work with runners who are raising money for their local Hospice and we are under the national charity Help the Hospices (see information below).

We provide the tables and couch roll at the London venue and can give £10 to cover any expenses from the charity.

The day is from 12 lunch-6pm so if you can cover then that would be fab. If not a few hours in the middle between 2.30 and 5.30pm will really help.

Help The Hospices

Virgin London Marathon 2012- Sunday 12 April

Massage brief
Help the Hospices is the leading charity supporting hospice care throughout the UK. We support over 200 local hospices as they strive to grow and improve hospice care.
This year we have a team of 200 runners raising money for Help the Hospices in the London Marathon and there are hundreds more people running for their local hospices. The Help the Hospices runners and local hospice runners will be coming along to the post-race reception to recover after they have finished the marathon.
The post-race reception is a chance for us to congratulate our runners and thank them for raising lots of money for us. We will provide them with refreshments and food, changing facilities and of course a much needed massage. This is where we need your help so thank you for giving up your time to give massages to our tired runners!

Wesley room: Massage room
Large open plan room made up of Abbey, Rutherford and Henry Moore rooms: Massage waiting area, Refreshments, food, TV coverage

The Role
When you arrive at the QEII Centre please report to our booths in the foyer area and let the Help the Hospices staff know who you are. They will direct you to the Abbey Room on the fourth floor, which is where the massage tables will be set up. You will also be provided with a pasta meal before the runners arrive.
We predict the first runners will start arriving at 12.45. Please provide a suitable-length leg massage to our runners – you can decide yourself how long each massage needs to take. Please bring along your own necessary massage aides – oils, towels etc. Plenty of couch roll will be provided for you.

12.00 – massage therapists to arrive and help set up tables
12.00-12.30 – a pasta meal will be available for you
12.45 – first runners will start to arrive so please be ready in the massage area
14:30 – 17:00 – peak time
18.30 – pack up and departure

Likely Numbers
Up to 250 runners could attend our post-race reception over the course of the afternoon. It is impossible to predict how many of these runners will want a massage. The busiest period is likely to be between 14.30 – 17.00.

Refreshments and costs
Tea, coffee and water will be available to all masseurs throughout the day and a pasta meal will be provided when you arrive. Please do take the time to have a meal.

Thank you very much for all your help in advance – we really do appreciate it and with your help the post-race reception and the runners’ marathon day experience will be fantastic!
