Massage therapists needed to help homeless people this Christmas in London
Specialist volunteers are urgently needed to donate their services to help homeless people in London over the festive season as part of Crisis at Christmas, running from Sunday 23 December – Sunday 30 December 2012.
Up to ten temporary centres will be set up in London by Crisis, the national charity for single homeless people, as part of Crisis at Christmas. The centres will provide vital companionship and hot meals for homeless and vulnerably housed people as well as essential services like health checks, housing advice, training and further education opportunities.
We aim to provide a range of massage and therapies to our guests across all centres at
Crisis at Christmas. This includes traditional massage, shiatsu, Indian head massage and
reflexology to ensure our guests receive a full and holistic approach to their health.
This is a popular service so we need a large number of people to volunteer to make sure
that all our guests have the chance to feel relaxed and soothed this Christmas.
If you have relevant skills and experience, please apply to join the team. And please
spread the word amongst your colleagues and friends.
Please note that all massage volunteers must be members of a recognised organisation and have a recognised qualification and appropriate insurance.
Shifts run from Monday 24 December through to Saturday 29 December. Shifts at day centres run from 10:30 until 17:00 and shifts at residential centres run from 15:00 to 21:00. We ask that every volunteer signs up for a minimum of two shifts.
Recruitment opens online by 15 October 2012. More details can be found on the Crisis website www.crisis.org.uk/volunteering. Alternatively you can call 0300 636 1000 for more information.
Volunteer case study: Rose Kourie
Rose Kourie first volunteered as a Massage Therapist in 2008 and is now part of a small team of volunteers that organises the Massage Service for Crisis at Christmas.
Rose says that “we want to offer a professional massage service in each and every centre over the Christmas period. The demand for massage from our guests far exceeds what we have been able to provide in previous years so I would strongly urge any massage therapists considering volunteering for Crisis to sign up. Whether you are available for two shifts or the entire week, we want to hear from you. It can be a fun, joyous occasion and I always find it rewarding. Both the guests and volunteers get so much out of the experience. Volunteers often tell me that they get far more out of it than they put in!"
