Complementary Therapist
Terrence Higgins Trust is committed to achieving a good volunteering experience for all of our volunteers. We believe in equal opportunities and welcome applications to volunteer from all. Where Criminal Disclosures are required we will review all cases on an individual basis and a criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to volunteering with us.

Introduction to Role:
We are looking for Volunteers to provide support as a professionally qualified and insured complementary therapist (e.g. Massage, Aromatherapy, Hypnotherapy, Shiatsu, Bowen, Reiki, Reflexology), aimed at increasing the wellbeing of Terrence Higgins Trust’s service users. To participate as one of the Complementary Therapy Team.
The Type of Tasks / Activities you could be involved with:
 Providing regular massage therapy sessions (3 hours per week)
 Recording case histories and keeping accurate and confidential records
 Attending relevant training
 Keeping up-to-date with current complementary therapy issues
 Attending team meetings, when appropriate
 Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of good practice relating to HIV, STIs and their treatments
Desirable Skills / Experience Sought:
 Ability to listen and empathise
 Understanding of the need for boundaries in the therapeutic relationship
 Level of approved training and competence in therapy acceptable to co-ordinator
 Ability to maintain confidentiality
 Ability to deliver service in a non-judgemental and non-discriminatory manner
 Demonstrate sensitivity to clients’ needs
 Punctuality and reliability
 Commitment to representing THT in a positive & constructive way

 Appropriate training provided
 Reimbursement of out of pocket expenses where possible
 Support and supervision
 References given subject to THT policy
 Opportunity to undertake accredited training programmes
 Opportunity to develop and update skills and gain new experiences
Desired Commitment: 3 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months
Geographical Area: St Charles Health and Wellbeing Centre, Exmoor Street, London, W10 6DZ
When Required: Daytimes, Evenings (negotiable)
Training & Support:
Mandatory 10-hour induction training plus additional training for role. Group or one-to-one support provided.
Restrictions (e.g. Age, Gender, Sexuality, HIV Status, Access):
Must be 18 years or over

Core Activities, all volunteers will be expected to:
 Promote and adhere to THT’s Equal Opportunities Policy, Confidentiality Policy and Volunteer Code of Conduct
 Promote and maintain health and safety regulations, practices and conditions
 Be responsible for the security of buildings and their contents and the charity’s resources
 Complete all necessary paperwork and provide basic monitoring data as required
 Take part in group support sessions and supervision as required for the role
 Attend meetings, conferences and undertake training as appropriate
