The Write Idea launches new study and revision guides

The Write Idea is a Cambridge-based publisher with over 17 years experience of producing educational materials, most recently for the complementary and beauty therapy industries. In response to numerous requests from colleges and tutors they have identified a need for a comprehensive series of resource materials to guide students through their coursework and assist them when revising for their examinations. Andy Wilson, Write Idea Managing Director says, ‘There are numerous guides available which are aimed at helping the tutors but very few, if any, which are designed for the students themselves. Some people believe that if you have a good course book and a good tutor then you shouldn’t need any further assistance. This is simply not true. Course books provide information, they do not generally help you understand that information. The overwhelming response we have received from piloting the materials has been that these guides are long overdue and will be a valuable asset to any student of complementary or beauty therapy.’

One of the main considerations when planning these guides has been to give the content as broad an appeal as possible. Consequently they are not written with any one syllabus in mind but have been designed to be useful and accessible for anyone studying for a qualification offered by any of the major awarding bodies. The publishers believe that successful study skills and revision techniques are generic and should be universally applicable, regardless of syllabus.

The guides are written by Yvonne Wood and Erika Ayling, experienced ITEC and CIBTAC tutors. Yvonne qualified as a complementary therapist 18 years ago and has taught for 15 years in both private and FE colleges, establishing a wide range of complementary courses and becoming Curriculum Manager before leaving to establish Heatherwood Academy. Erika began her career in the NHS and over the last 10 years has studied and practised many aspects of complementary therapy which ultimately inspired her to move into teaching and jointly establish Heatherwood Academy. Yvonne and Erika say ‘We are absolutely delighted to be working with the Write Idea on these titles. There has been a significant gap in the market for many years now which we hope these study and revision guides will fill. As tutors our aim is to provide high quality teaching in a supportive environment. We would like to share our experience with as many students as possible to enrich their studies and to help them succeed in their chosen subject.’

The first title in the series is The Essential Study and Revision Guide for Anatomy and Physiology. Published on 25th April it will be available in time to assist students with their revision for this summer’s examinations. The broad subject areas covered will include:
• general study methods
• theory work
• practical skills
• revision techniques
• How to pass the exam

Further titles to be published later this year will include massage, beauty, aromatherapy and reflexology. The guides will be affordably priced and available from all major distributors or direct from the publishers.
