SPD/PGP

I understood symphisis pubis dysfunction/pelvic girdle pain to be a contraindication in massage. But I have had a request for treatment from a client who says she has "occasional PGP" and had previous massage treatment during her pregnancy. Researching further, I notice that some massage professionals and pregnancy support groups advocate massage for SPD/PGP, arguing that easing muscle and joint tension is often key to improving a sufferer's condition. I would value the opinions of other practitioners who are qualified, as I am, in pregnancy massage. Thank you.

Hi, I have had clients referred by the specialist or midwife for a massage and in one instance the client only disclosed the issue halfway into the session as massage had helped with the previous pregnancy. I make the sessions shorter for for them and focus on the supporting muscles and glutes which seem to ease the pain. I have recently qualified in Hydrotherm massage which seems to be much better in terms of comfort for someone who is pregnant.

Thank you. I did much as you did, by the sounds of it, and the client seemed happy and unaffected by it.
