NEWS UPDATE - EXETER TORBAY AND DISTRICT

Hi Everyone; Our former Deputy Co-Ordinator, Henry Tang, due to a slight change in his plans, is remaining in the Exeter area. Having come up with a great idea to start an open forum on Facebook, Henry has allowed himself to be persuaded to serve on our district's committee. It's great to have Henry on board again, and the Facebook forum will add a new and interesting dimension to our network here in the South West. The following link should get you connected so do have a look: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21294599606 Tuesday 15th June 2010 saw our first meeting take place in the Newton Abbot area, thus allowing therapists to have much easier access to meetings in this 'widely spread' area of ours. I reproduce below notes of this meeting: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Group Co-Ordinator I was unfortunately unable to attend this meeting due to ill health. May I sincerely thank Ann our treasurer for leading the meeting, and member Linda Smith for kindly assisting, and those who attended for making the effort. Thank you so much. This was the first of our group meetings in or near Newton Abbott. It was a great evening enjoyed by the 14 people who attended. Welcome to everyone especially new people. Ann Denman welcomed everyone and especially new attendees. She gave a brief overview of the group and its committee and what the people who choose to be a part of this group would benefit from i.e. great speakers at the meetings, networking opportunities as well as workshops to learn new techniques or have an introduction to new modalities. It was emphasised that the group is 'ours' and will only be as good as the effort and energy that we put in. Everyone was invited to contact Keith Meager with any offers to speak or give a workshop, in the first instance. Speaker/Demonstration Martyn Rudin from Soundzmagic was introduced and he began a fascinating, interesting and sound-full talk and demonstration of a Sound healing. We experienced a 'sound bath' with him playing singing bowls, gongs, rain sticks and other instruments including using his voice. We were then able to try playing the singing bowls for ourselves and he finished his talk with a meditation and some voice work that we all joined in with. Martyn suggested that we all have a singing bowl that we play in our therapy rooms to enhance our therapy work. In all a most insightful and enjoyable experience and we each took a gift away with us from being a part of it. A big thank you to Martyn who can be found at www.soundzmagic.co.uk Other News The dates for the next meeting in Exeter - 13 July 2010 - and information about the speaker Brian Parsons was given along with the dates for the next Newton Abbott meeting - 12 October 2010. There will be a Sidwell Open Day, probably on the 22nd September where therapists are invited to give small taster therapies throughout the day and will need to be able to offer an hour or two each. More information will be available as soon as the event is confirmed. Breaking news of a possible Exeter Local Radio show where Therapists will be invited to present information, answer public phone in questions etc. Henry Tang (leading) and Keith Meager are working together on this. Louise Woods told the group about her involvement in the free green living magazine 'Reconnect' and the possibility of joining together as the CThA group to advertise our individual therapies. Tim Wickson told us about a new Complementary Therapy Clinic he is starting in Pembroke House in Preston, Paignton and the open meeting on Friday 18th June, starting at 10.30 a.m. at The Old Manor Old Torquay Road, to show attendees the premises and discuss what is on offer to Therapists. Ann suggested that it may be possible to car-share to get to the Exeter meetings. Communications can be through the CThA forum page and also the Facebook group page which is called 'Exeter Torbay & District Complementary Therapists Group' (See Link Above). The evening ended with refreshments and networking time. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and one that hopefully has inspired our new members to come again and bring their friends too. -------------------------------------------------- To Sum Up:- This was the first meeting in the Newton Abbot area. The committee are still on the lookout for improved premises in the Newton Abbot area, so if anyone is aware of a suitable venue, please contact myself. Accessibility, Size, peace and car parking are the foremost criteria. It is pleasing to see new members coming om board, hopefully numbers will increase as word starts to go around. I would reinforce Ann's words, it is your group and it will be as successful as the effort made by it's membership. This does not have to be a massive committment, but will certainly be one from which we can collectively benefit. Please spread the word. The car share idea is a great, thank you again Ann. May I urge you to consider this, and also to take a look at, and indeed contribute to the CThA forum and the new Facebook site. These both have great potential, and are an excellent way for us all to communicate. If you are unsure how to access these sites, just email me and I will send you clickable links. Let us look forward to our next meeting and trust that the network will continue to grow and prosper. If anyone has any ideas or feedback, do please feed it in to myself. INTERESTED IN THIS GROUP. THEN PLEASE EMAIL ME:- enquiries@reiki-journey.co.uk or phone: 07738 197606. With Light & Peace, Keith Meager. Group Co-Ordinator. 17.06.2010
