I can't come to this meeting unfortunately, but I'd like to say that I have been offering my services (as a massage therapist) free of charge to a local charity for the last 5 months, partly because I thought it would be a good thing to do after being made redundant but also to gain confidence in my technique as I am a new therapist. My clients, many of whom would never be able to afford a massage or just wouldn't put themselves first for pampering, have thoroughly enjoyed every session. They have a range of health conditions, and have reported tangible benefits (eg. improved sleep, feelings of deep relaxation for a few days after the treatment, noticeable lift in mood...) I think volunteering is a great way to build on confidence and honing your technique, especially when newly qualified, but even for experienced practitioners. I'd be interested to find out about the extra funding, as I'd love to carry on what I'm doing but need to pay the bills! Sorry for the long posting!

Hi Stella, What a brilliant way to start your therapeutic career. I am sure you gain more than experience in your generous gesture to offer massage treatments to a charity. Well done. Please keep in touch and I will forward any information that is relevant so you can continue with your charity work. I do wish that all therapists can read your post. Thank you Stella for sharing your thoughts. Suan
