Tayforth Meeting 26 November 2005

Thanks to the 6 members who turned up to the Tayforth meeting on Saturday 26 November. We discussed the Embody PR launch and the fact that none of those present seem to have benefitted so far - a huge disappointment to us all. We then watched a teaching video on The 'M' technique® - a method of structured stroking. Each movement and sequence is done a set number of times, in a set pattern, at a set pressure and set speed that never changes. This makes it extremely easy to learn. And because the technique is structured in terms of order, number and pressure, it is almost completely reproducible and therefore useful in research. Whilst all present felt it didn't teach them anything "new", it was an excellent refresher on how you can touch someone who is very fragile or critically ill using a technique that is is much lighter and more soothing than conventional massage. Many of us, experienced practitioners, are often unaware of how much we have come to rely on auto-pilot. Going back to basics and critically analysing our methods can be a very insightful and revealing experience! Our next meeting will be on Saturday 11 February (NOT Saturday 28 January). Speaker to be announced - if any member has anyone in mind, please let me have details. Other meetings for the year will take place on 25 March, 27 May, 29 July, 30 September, and 25 November. All will be held at The Volunteer Centre, 10 St Bycedale Avenue, Kirkcaldy, starting 10am prompt. Best Wishes to you all over Christmas and the New Year. Mariette
