Winding Down!

Hi All - Just to let you know that, most regretfully, Pat Terry who has been so proactive over the Embody/CThA local groups set up (she moved with each change from GCP to IGPP to Embody to CThA) will no longer by employed by Embody from 22 December 2006. She really will be hugely missed. I am keen to keep Tayforth going, despite Pat's departure, but this would entail more admin work on my part that previously would have been carried out by Pat. Consequently, I would request that members give serious thought to doing more than just turning up at meetings in 2007 to claim CPD points - a bit of give and not all take, maybe! One of the most helpful things you can do is to actually respond, in time, to requests re numbers attending a particular meeting/event as it is so frustrating not knowing until the last minute. Thankfully, Linda Dalgarno is organising our next meeting (lunch at Terrassi's in Dunfermline on Saturday 27 January - but, sadly, she was the only one who volunteered to do this (numbers will have to be finalised by mid January. Linda is going to be away on holiday over Christmas and New Year). Repeated requests for guest speakers and event/activity suggestions for the group in the past have had little or no response from members (other than Ailsa who organised the fabulous canoeing event and Eileen who demonstrated Tai Chi). I'm going ahead and arranging dates and speakers/events for 2007. I have enough on the go (including therapies exchange day), through my own efforts/contacts, to fill up all of 2007 (we might even have to have an extra meeting to accommodate it all!). From a finance point of view, Embody/CThA are no longer going to subsidise local groups. So we now have to meet ALL of our expenses (postagej, phone calls, stationary, etc etc etc). I don't intend raising the attendance fee in 2007 (£3 members and £4 non-members) if we can retain our current attendance of at least 12 members per meeting. However, this means the lunch in January will no longer be subsidised (even partly) by our group funds as I had intimated - so I hope having to pay for your own lunch won't put you off making this date! Similarly, for reasons of finance, my only communication will be by email. Pat used to send out letters and make calls on behalf of coordinators to those not on email, but I really haven't the time to do this. So if you, or anybody you know, wishes to find out what's going on with Tayforth, then they can look at the web pages (Forum) or send me their email address. I'll make sure I keep the Forum web pages up to date. Of course, those on my current email list will continue to be kept informed by email as well. Best Wishes and hope to see you all soon! Mariette

Thanks for this, Helen. I agree with most of what you say. However, I think the key is in the fact you did your aromatherapy and reflexology at different times. Most college course combine several units and within this combination lies an extremely heavy workload for students and tutors. Maybe this is why there is the slippage in standards that you have noticed?? This is why I am interested in opening up this debate. Perhaps, the courses on offer, how they are delivered, the timescale all need to be reviewed? Mariette

Sorry - the last reply was sent to the wrong forum! Tayforth members - please ignore. It should have gone to The Therapy Lecturers' Forum. Mariette
