How Long should Therapists keep client records?

I was asked this question by a member yesterday the answer is: I am writing to confirm that therapists should keep client records cards for a minimum of 7 years. Though I am emailing from the CThA office I work for Holistic Insurance Services so I hope this correspondence is sufficient for your friend. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to call or email me back at this address. If the MINIMUM is 7 years, how long is recommended. I'm sure my lecturer said, "at least 15 years" - although this does seem to be rather a long time. However, that may be because I only START counting from the date of the last appointment!
